ONCE AGAIN, MY STEPS quickened, and I would have started running if I’d had the room for it. But once again, I was painfully reminded that I was stuck on this blasted blitzer with Kyrion until we reached Tropics 33.

I did a couple of laps around the medtable, going nowhere fast, and my gaze landed on the green, blue, and red buttons on the wall that controlled the cargo bay ramp, the permaglass barrier, and the oxygen level. My fingers twitched with the urge to smack the buttons, lower the permaglass barrier, and suck all the air out of Kyrion’s side of the ship.

No, I decided, still glaring at the buttons. Suffocation was too quick and easy a death for him. I should shove my stormsword into his chest. Or better yet, shoot him with a blaster and watch him slowly bleed out.

I did some more laps around the medtable. After the seventh lap, I forced myself to slow down.

Despite my boiling anger, I would not—could not—ever deliberately hurt Kyrion like that. Although, if I was being completely honest, I had already hurt him by hiding the truth about the bond. I huffed. Some pair we were. Each of us was perfectly happy to lie to the other when it suited our purposes. They might have been good lies, designed to shield the other person from harm, but they still had backfired all the same.

The rest of my anger evaporated, although hurt kept grinding against my heart like it was caught in a series of geared wheels. I needed something to do, a project to occupy my hands and especially my mind until we reached Tropics 33. Maybe I could rearrange the supplies in the cargo bay, even though everything was already stowed away . . .

A gleam of silver caught my eye. The hand cannon that I’d swiped from the Techwave facility was lying on the counter where Kyrion had slung it down when we’d first boarded the blitzer. I’d been so distracted that I hadn’t had a chance to study the Techwave modifications to my design.

Time to change that.

Determination surged through me, and I took the hand cannon to a maintenance area on the second, lower deck that was filled with tools and other supplies. I placed the weapon on a holoscreen. A series of 3D holograms appeared over the table, and I picked up the weapon and physically dissembled it piece by piece.

The cannon was largely the same as the one I had created at Kent Corp, the design Conrad Fawley had claimed was no good before handing it over to Rowena and Sabine Kent. Fresh anger spiked through me, but Conrad, Rowena, and Sabine were dead. They couldn’t hurt me anymore, and they had suffered for their crimes against me and all the innocent people they had killed in the Velorum crash. Still, that bit of justice felt hollow right now.

One by one, I placed the cannon pieces on the holoscreen, creating 3D scans of each individual part.
